Mindful attention awareness and cognitive defusion are indirectly associated with less PTSD-like symptoms via reduced maladaptive posttraumatic cognitions and avoidance coping

Abstract Recently, the effects of mindfulness-based interventions for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have been studied. However, we lack knowledge processes or mechanisms through which mindfulness influences resilience promotes recovery following exposure to trauma. In this study, examine process by and cognitive-behavioral factors such as negative cognition avoidance behaviors are associated with reduced PTSD-like symptoms. A questionnaire survey was conducted 885 university students, using Trauma Experience Questionnaire, Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, Cognitive Fusion Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist, revised Ways Coping a brief version Posttraumatic Cognitions Inventory. Data from 254 participants who experienced trauma symptoms were analyzed. The final model SEM indicated no direct association mindful attention awareness on symptoms, small cognitive defusion large indirect mediated cognitions coping. Owing study’s cross-sectional design, strong conclusions cannot be drawn regarding causal relationship generalizations. our findings suggest that it would worthwhile continue clarify mechanism investigate its use in treatment PTSD. future, highly accurate study design will hopefully used several different improvement preferably including them same model.
